Not that Hirata doesn’t hope to see Torrance again.

The Bronco All-Stars lost 8-5 on Friday at the PONY West Zone U12 tournament, meaning Hilo must win twice Saturday to reach Sunday’s title game in Whittier, Calif.

Kedren Kinzie collected three hits and Mason Hirata finished with two for Hilo, which first must beat Orem, Utah, at 9:30 a.m. HST Saturday to get a rematch against Torrance at 2 p.m. HST.

On Friday, Orem beat Whittier 10-3.

Hilo opened play Thursday with a 19-2 win against Whittier, while Torrance trumped Orem 10-6.

Rainforest runs set for Aug. 19

Registration is ongoing for the Volcano Rainforest Runs, set for Aug. 19.

The half-marathon starts at 7 a.m., with the 5K (7:45 a.m.) and 10K (8 a.m.) to follow – all runs start and finish at Cooper Center on Wright Road in Volcano Village.

The fees for the races – half-marathon ($75), 10K ($45), 5K ($30) – will go up slightly after Monday.

Among the registration options is a packet pickup from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Palace Theater in Hilo. There is no race-day registration for the half-marathon, but sign-ups for the other two races will be held 5:30-7 a.m. Aug. 19.

In addition to the three races, a Keiki Run and Zero Mile are planned later in the morning.

Hilo volleyball tryouts

The Hilo High girls volleyball team will be holding tryouts on Aug. 3 and 4 from 4-6 p.m. and Aug. 5 from 11-1:30 p.m. at the school gymnasium

All interested students must have a current physical examination to participate.

A Moku o Hawaii Volleyball Association officials meeting for the upcoming BIIF girls season will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Waiakea Uka Gym.

P&R volleyball league set

An organizational meeting for the 2017 Parks and Recreation volleyball league for ages 14-under, 12U, 10U will be held at 5 p.m. Aug. 9 at Aunty Sally’s.

Registration packets will be distributed after the meeting and league rules, eligibility and format will be discussed.

The league is scheduled to run from Sept. 11 through Dec. 7.

Hawaii Cycling Club race

Hawaii Cycling Club, along with Bike Works, is once again hosting the 48-mile, 9,800 foot elevation climb, Sea-to-Stars bicycle race on Aug. 5. Sign-in is at 7 a.m. and the race will start at 8 a.m.

Cyclists may sign up at usacycling.com for a $95 fee. Discounts are available for HCC members, students, and the military. The field will be limited to 50 riders.

Registration will be done online only, and will end Tuesday.
